Travel smart in the summer heat

Summertime is undoubtedly here ! And with the onset of the summer heat, you have likely made vacation plans to head towards a cooler climate, or towards water, or both! When pets are part of the household, we often have to make that difficult decision: Do we bring the pets, or leave them behind? And if we must leave them behind, do we board at a kennel, or hire a pet sitter?

Planning and preparation are necessary when traveling with family pets. Your pet’s personality may be a key factor in deciding whether or not to travel with them. Some animals, like some people, function better in familiar surroundings. A carsick animal can make a trip miserable for everyone. Your dog or cat may be ill or physically impaired so they cannot withstand the rigors of travel. If you are not able to take your pet along, there are options for your pet’s care such as using a reliable pet-sitter or a clean, well-managed boarding facility.
