Fun With Dock Spiders

My daughter got a little plastic and screen bug house from her grand parents this summer. She loved to collect moths and caterpillars. But when heading out fishing, I saw a huge dock spider sunning itself and I thought it would look great in my daughters bug house.

Here’s what happened:

I was using a styrofoam worm container to try and catch the dock spider. I crept up and just placed the worm container over the spider. I had the lid in my other hand and I thought I could just slide the lid underneath and then the spider would be trapped.

The flaw in my plan you ask? The lid is beveled. I did not take this into consideration at the time but figured out the error in a mighty quick way.

I lifted the side of the container and started to slide the lid under. That gave the spider enough room to squeeze through and run up the entire length of my arm. I was wearing a T-shirt. I don’t think I need to tell anyone that these animals are super quick movers.

The spider ran up my arm. I was screaming like a 4 year old girl slapping the crap outta myself. The spider made it to the short arm sleeve and now was sharing my shirt with me.

I don’t know why but I was trying to run away from myself…….if you get my meaning. Meanwhile everybody (15 people) along the shore was watching me. I guess my very feminine screams attracted their attention.

The spider fell out of my shirt and made it to cover. I looked around and noticed all these people staring at me. I tried to act “manly”. I was just about to go up my stairs but went up my neighbors stairs instead.

We look alike from a distance!!!!
