Fashion Week Stargazing: Day 7

And on the seventh day, there was Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. From the mayhem caused by the couple, first at Marchesa and later at Louise Goldin, you would have thought Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor had been reincarnated.

But first, the morning started with another famous couple. At the Michael Kors show at Lincoln Center, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones sat placidly in their front-row seats, fenced off from the plebeians with black security tape, waiting for the 10 a.m. show to finally begin. (The delay was due to, yes, “a wardrobe malfunction” backstage, according to an overheard conversation between two security guards.)

Katharine McPhee and Camilla Belle were feeling more chatty. Ms. McPhee had picked out her red long-sleeved tunic dress with gold embroidery and plunging neckline. “It’s on trend with all that royal embroidery,” the “Smash” actress said, referring to the recent hubbub over British royalty. Usually, she takes cues from the city sidewalks. “I live here, so I try to pay attention to what’s going on in the street,” she said. “It’s probably the most inspiring in terms of fashion.”

But Ms. Belle found joy in the runway looks. “It was so happy,” she said after the show. “All those yellows, blues and greens.” What of her metallic purple eyeliner? “Oh, that’s just for fun,” she said.

Nanette Lepore’s collection, likewise, was chock-full of riotous color. The point wasn’t lost on Edie Falco, who, clad in a turquoise and burgundy print cap-sleeved dress by the designer, said she was friends with Ms. Lapore. “I wouldn’t in a million years think I would wear something like this, but I like it,” said the “Nurse Jackie” actress. “I wish they made scrubs like this.”

Stanley Tucci was nearby, sharp in a pinstripe suit.

On to Rachel Zoe in the afternoon. For a Los Angeles based stylist, there was surprisingly little star power, save for Harvey Weinstein, husband to the Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman, who sauntered in wearing a well-tailored, dark Richard James suit. “Georgina picked this out for me,” he said. “I’m embarrassed to say she picks out most of my outfits, down to my socks.”

“I miss the days when I could wear no socks, bad jeans and a ripped shirt with mustard stains on it,” he said with a wry smile.

In fact, Mr. Weinstein had a full fashion day in store for him. He resurfaced at the early evening Marchesa show at Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Terminal. There, the front row functioned as a dress rehearsal for the awards season ahead. Sarah Hyland of “Modern Family” wore a Marchesa peacock-blue strapless frock, her first time wearing the brand. “It’s fun to get dressed up,” she said, although usually she prefers “to mix it up, a nautical look one day and maybe feathery bohemian the next.”

Jenna Dewan-Tatum (wife of Channing) was also in cocktail attire by the label. She was attending shows and doing press for a new movie this week. “My trick is to get a lot of sleep and to eat when you can,” she said. Any tips for dozing off? “I’m a big meditator,” she said. “I practice Vedic meditation twice a day, and that works.”

“Otherwise, a hot bath and glass of wine is the way to do it,” she said, finishing with her best Hollywood smile.

The parade marched on. The woman with the huge hair? Tyra Banks. Bar Refaeli snuck in wearing black leather pants. A trimmed-down Kelly Osbourne was also a hit with the photographers.

Then the big moment: the last-minute arrival of Ms. Kardashian and Mr. West into the gilded room, framed by bulky bodyguards, as the paparazzi went wild before being shooed away so the show could begin.

Later, to the surprise of almost everyone in the room, Kimye showed up (after a wardrobe change, of course) at Milk Studios at an intimate show for the British designer Louise Goldin.

You could see editors busily tweeting the news from their front-row seats, as Mr. West and Ms. Kardashian squeezed right in next to them and waited for the show to begin.
