The new Permaset Aqua is a 100% Solvent free water based ink that demonstrates qualities unheard of even with normal textile inks that usually contain 10, 20 or even 30% distillates.

The first thing many will notice upon opening a jar of Permaset Aqua is its lack of an overpowering smell. Feeling a garment printed with Permaset Aqua, then, most are surprised by its softness of the print. The softness, smooth drape, and excellent adhesion qualities of the new Aqua is due to the industry leading work in polymer technology by its manufacturer, Colormaker.

Typically when printers have switched from a pvc-based screen printing ink to a water-based system, they lost color opacity. They chose health and environmental responsibility or color yield, but generally couldn’t attain both. Through meticulous formulating and a rigorous pigment selection process, Colormaker has created an ink with unsurpassed color opacity and brightness.

Wash & Wearability

Generally, a soft print displays poor durability to wash tests.

Colormaker has created a polymer that is at once both soft and incredibly strong. In one example, Aqua sample prints on cotton lycra were run through thirty commercial wash cycles at 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Without the use of additives, the new Aqua product performs beautifully on cotton, wool synthetics, and even stretch fabrics – All with good adhesion, softness, and wash durability.

Color

Pigments have been meticulously selected for light fastness. All pigments score significantly on the Blue Wool Scale.

Colors have been selected from the edge of the color wheel giving maximum brightness and cleanliness. This also has the effect of a maximum number of colors to be mixed from the smallest range.

By engineering down to sub-micron particle size, Permaset Aqua has created a print that is amazingly soft. The small particle allows a much more permanent bind, while creating color yield that is higher and with increased transparency.

Finer particles can fit through a finer meshed screen. The increased color yield means less ink achieves the same color opacity. The result is better ink mileage and again, a softer print. Lower ink lay-down means less ink to cure, hence greater productivity and lower environmental impact.

Screen Time

This product cannot compete with a plastisol based ink with regard to open screen time. Colormaker has, however, actively worked to improve the open time of this product and has achieved significant advances for a water-based product.
