Blackjack Strategy and Card Counting

Blackjack is a popular casino gaming choice because it is player friendly. By employing basic strategy and betting the same amount each hand (flat betting), you can almost negate the house edge. By employing more sophisticated blackjack strategies, you can actually tilt the odds in your favor. There is no way to guarantee winning every time you sit at a table, or log onto a game, but in the long run, you have a good chance at being successful.

Card Counting

The most common blackjack strategy for beating the odds is using basic strategy and changing your bets based on accurate card counting. There are several methods of card counting, but they are all a way for determining whether the remaining cards in the deck favor the player or the dealer. If there are more high cards remaining, the advantage will be with the player, while more low cards will favor the dealer. Based on this information, you adjust your bets accordingly. Although this strategy has been the best way to beat casinos over the years, it has become increasingly more difficult to master.

Potential Roadblocks

The problem is that casinos realize card counting can put the odds in your favor and do everythingpossible to prevent it. They use burn cards, early shuffle, multiple decks, and continuous shuffling machines so that cardcounting is virtually impossible. If they suspect that you are counting cards, they will try todistract you or in some cases they will simply ask you to leave the premises. Also, if you are interested in online blackjack, card counting will not help you since online programs shuffle the deck after each hand.

Alternative Strategies

There are other good blackjackstrategies available, however. Some of these strategies use basic strategy and betting techniques that can take advantage of winning and losing trends. Others will also tweak basic strategy to be more compatible with these betting techniques and to account for variations in table rules and numbers of decks used. And the good news is casinos are less prepared to defeat or even recognize these alternative strategies.

In the end, winning at blackjack is not easy. It takes patience, commitment, knowledge, and luck. Even if a card counting approach is not feasible, you still have other options that will give you an excellent chance of beating the house.
